Woori Bank signed a memorandum of understanding with Viettel Global, the subsidiary of Vietnam’s major digital service provider Viettel, the bank announced on Wednesday.
Under the partnership, Woori Bank plans to expand strategic cooperation with the company, which oversees Viettel’s overseas telecom operations and digital investments. Such cooperation includes sharing information and expertise on Viettel’s overseas businesses and providing additional financial support for investments in new markets.
Viettel Global operates across 10 countries in Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa. It has already conducted financial transactions with Woori Bank’s Vietnam unit.
“Cooperation with Viettel, which is responsible for the core infrastructure of Vietnam — Korea’s third-largest trading partner and a market with significant growth potential — will serve as a new growth engine for Woori Bank’s global business,” said Woori Bank CEO Jung Jin-wan in a statement.
“We will continue to provide a broad range of financial experiences to both local Vietnamese customers and Korean companies through innovative financial services,” he added.
The partnership was sealed during Jung’s trip to Vietnam, where he accompanied President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to the country.
