Posco is rolling out its digital transformation (DX) strategy in all facets of the company to aid in its future competitiveness.
The company’s strategy aims to transform its workplaces into “intelligent factories” and “intelligent offices.”
Running an intelligent factory is more than simply about optimizing processes, it embodies both autonomous and intelligent work. The aim is to automate manufacturing in high-risk sectors and to reflect worker knowledge through AI.
For steelmaking, the company successfully applied an autonomous operations system last year. Robots are used to automatically detect the location of slag to remove it, and AI analyzes variables to decide oxygen levels. These automatic and intelligent models have helped strengthen productivity and safety.
Posco has also adopted AI and lidar sensors for use on cranes, enabling them to load and handle wire rods. This is a huge achievement, considering the awkward shape of the loads. AI is also used to enhance product inspection, as well as in steel manufacturing and logistics.
For its business functions, Posco has begun implementing its intelligent office strategy, which encompasses purchasing, marketing and business support. In 2023, in cooperation with PoscoDX, the company adopted its own AI platform, Private GPT (P-GPT) for use in the workplace.
Posco will continue to develop its AI use in both manufacturing and in the office, further increasing its world-class quality and safety competitiveness, while also innovating to maximize efficiency in working with AI.
