Presidential chief of staff for policy Kim Yong-beom resigned Tuesday, about 15 months after becoming the Lee Jae Myung administration’s first policy chief.

“Kim offered to resign yesterday,” presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said at a briefing Tuesday. “President Lee Jae Myung accepted his resignation today.”

Kim was appointed presidential chief of staff for policy in June 2025, shortly after the Lee administration took office.

Kim’s resignation comes amid speculation that turmoil in financial markets over single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and the resulting deterioration in public sentiment contributed to his departure.

Opposition lawmakers had alleged that Kim instructed financial authorities to introduce leveraged ETFs tied to individual chip stocks.
