YG Entertainment will debut a five-member boy band by September, making it the K-pop agency's first such group in six years.

"We are currently expecting to introduce YG's new boy band in September," YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk said in a YouTube video uploaded to the agency's blog and official channel on Thursday.

The upcoming band will have five members to "differentiate" the group from Treasure, a 10-member band that originally debuted with 12 members in 2020. YG Entertainment's most iconic boy band, Big Bang, debuted as a quintet.

Yang also said he will share details about other rookies in the future.

"We will sequentially unveil our new intellectual property and new artists," he said.

YG Entertainment had announced a new girl group, tentatively named Next Monster, in early 2025. The agency unveiled three members, and has yet to name the fourth and final member.

At the same time, the agency head also teased girl group BabyMonster's upcoming third EP "Choom," named after the Korean word for "dance," set to be released next Monday.

"As the title of the song is called 'Choom,' I thought to myself that the song should have really cool choreography," he said. "We had a lot of ups and downs as we designed the choreography for the song."

BabyMonster will be releasing a total of four music videos, according to Yang, starting wth "Choom," followed by a digital single with a tentative title of "Sugar Honey" and two B-side tracks from the EP, "I Like It" and "Moon."

Yang apologized to Treasure for the hardship the band had to endure as it debuted in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, on top of Yang's "personal hardship." He was found guilty of threatening a whistle-blower to cover up a drug allegation that involved a former YG artist, B.I.

"I was always sorry to Treasure for not doing my best," Yang said, unveiling the band's next release, which is also imminent, on June 1. The agency, however, did not share details about the upcoming EP, such as its tracklist.

"The band's next album, however, is my favorite album so far," Yang said.
