Longline fishing vessels, used to catch cutlassfish and other species, are docked at Seogwipo Port on Jeju Island on Monday, as the average price of diesel on the island climbed to 2,015 won per liter ($5.14 per gallon) amid fallout from the Middle East crisis. Tax-exempt diesel used by fishing boats has surged about 60 percent from March to around 280,000 won per 200-liter drum, adding to the burden on fishermen.
