Korea’s conservative People Power Party (PPP) is facing mounting pressure ahead of local elections, grappling with internal divisions, a weak candidate pool and sinking approval ratings. Recent polls show support falling to around 18 percent, the lowest since the Lee Jae Myung administration took office, widening the gap with the ruling Democratic Party. At the same time, the government has proposed a large supplementary budget, citing the Middle East conflict and energy risks, drawing criticism from the PPP as politically motivated spending that could further tilt the electoral landscape.
