Rapper BewhY will shut down his hip-hop label Dejavu Group nine years after its founding, the rapper announced through his social media channels on Friday.
“It’s been 10 years since I began making music and rapping. I believed the direction that I chose would always be right, but life did not unfold as I had expected. I have failed,” BewhY wrote in the social media post. “I’ve come to understand my limits clearly, and I’ve decided to let go of the things that I was fixated on.”
“I was afraid that the label of ‘failure’ would follow me [forever] the moment that I admitted my faults and mistakes, but now I will face it,” he added.
BewhY debuted in 2014 with the single “Waltz.” He rose to fame after winning Mnet’s rap competition show “Show Me the Money 5” in 2016 and founded the one-man agency Dejavu Group the following year. The company later expanded into a full-fledged hip-hop label in 2019, bringing in artists such as Choi LB and C Jamm. Currently, only BewhY and UNE remain under the label.
“This decision was never made lightly, and I take full responsibility. I also want to thank the artists who trusted and worked with me,” BewhY said.
“I sincerely thank everyone who has supported Dejavu Group, and at the same time, I apologize.”
