Director Jung Joo-ri's upcoming film "Dora" has been invited to the noncompetitive section of the Cannes Film Festival this year.
The Director's Fortnight organizing committee of the 78th Cannes Film Festival officially announced the invitation on Tuesday.
It makes Jung's third film to be invited to the festival after "A Girl at My Door" (2014) and "Next Sohee" (2022).
"Dora" follows two wounded people — both physically and psychologically — as they are pulled into a "vortex of complex emotions," rendered with the director's trademark delicacy, according to the film's distributor, K Wave Media.
The film stars Kim Do-yeon, who received the best new actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards last year. Kim debuted as a member of the project girl group I.O.I. Japanese actress Sakura Ando, who won the Japanese Academy Film Prize for best actress three times with the films "100 Yen Love" (2014), "Shoplifters" (2018) and "Monster" (2023), also stars in the movie.
The Director's Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival is a noncompetitive section established in 1969. Korean directors Lee Chang-dong with "Peppermint Candy" (1999), Bong Joon-ho with "The Host" (2006) and Yeon Sang-ho with "The King of Pigs" (2012) were previously invited to the showcase.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 13 to 24 in the French Riviera.
