Austrian children’s book author Heinz Janisch is set to visit Korea for a month to take part in a series of literary events and exchange programs, Art Council Korea (ARKO) said Wednesday.

Janisch, a radio journalist and writer, received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Writing in 2024 and the Bologna Ragazzi Award in 2006, among other accolades.

The author in Korea will meet children and engage with local writers through a series of events organized by ARKO, a state-funded organization that supports and promotes the arts.

On April 19, a creative workshop will take place for third- and fourth-grade elementary school students interested in writing children’s stories. On April 21, a conversation with the author will take place alongside figures from Korea’s children’s literature community.

Janisch's visit to Korea is part of ARKO's overseas artist-in-residence programs, supported by private companies, aiming to strengthen the foundation for domestic literary creation.

“We will introduce trends and authors in international children’s literature to Korea and expand global exchanges through literature,” an ARKO official said.
