Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo met with the visiting delegation from Mouvement des Entreprises de France (Medef), the largest business association in France, on Thursday to discuss cooperation in supply chains, energy and advanced industries, Yeo's office said.
The meeting was attended by Francois Jackow, the chairman of the France-Korea Business Council of Medef, and representatives from 16 French companies, including Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, Veolia and OPmobility, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
Thursday's meeting came ahead of a summit between President Lee Jae Myung and French President Emmanuel Macron, set to take place in Seoul on Friday.
The ministry said that Yeo and the French business leaders discussed ways to expand cooperation between Korea and France in advanced industries, energy and supply chains amid heightened geopolitical and economic uncertainties in the global environment.
“Bilateral cooperation in strategic industries, such as semiconductors, environmentally friendly vehicles and low-carbon supply chains, is not optional but essential,” Yeo was quoted as saying.
“If the two countries integrate their technologies and industrial infrastructure, they will be able to secure strong competitiveness in the global market,” he continued.
Yeo also vowed that Seoul would continue to create a stable investment environment for global companies operating here, according to the ministry.
