Singer Jeon Somin of the co-ed group KARD will release her first solo EP, “Unveil,” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, following a career that saw her debut in multiple groups over the past decade.

“Unveil” comes nine years after Jeon made her debut with KARD. The EP contains seven tracks, including the lead single “Backseat,” along with “Love Me Like A Fan,” “Keep It Cute,” “Got It Like That,” “Como Yo A Ti,” “Closure” and an instrumental version of “Backseat.”

“Calling it another ‘debut’ feels strange, but I feel both nervous and excited, as this marks a major turning point in my life,” Jeon said about her EP. “I am especially grateful to those who have waited for me [to make my solo debut] for a long time. I spent months thinking through this album and worked hard on it, so I hope many people listen to and enjoy ‘Unveil.’”

Jeon first debuted as a member of Puretty, a girl group under DSP Media, in 2012. Puretty released music in Japan and disbanded after two years. Jeon then appeared on MBC’s reality audition show “Kara Project” (2014), in which seven female trainees competed to become the new member of the girl group Kara.

Though Jeon did not make the final cut, she debuted as the leader of DSP Media’s girl group April in August 2015. She left April later that year due to “concerns about the future” and debuted as a member of KARD in July 2017.

“When I worked in a group, I often shared ideas and created [music] together with the members,” Jeon said. “As I prepared for my solo debut, I had to decide for myself what I wanted to express and how I wanted to go about doing that, meaning that I had more to think about and felt a greater sense of pressure. It felt like I had to achieve what the four of us used to do on my own, but I worked through it step by step in discussion with the agency staff.”

“I want to make refreshing music that suits summer while also challenging myself with more emotional songs that can deeply resonate with listeners,” she continued.
