Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said Thursday that Korea seeks to promote industrial and technological cooperation with China as part of efforts to help the economies of both countries, as well as the rest of the world.

Kim made the remark in a virtual keynote speech to the Boao Forum for Asia held in China's Boao, Hainan Province, citing the need for not only Korea and China but all countries in Asia to come together in the face of uncertainty and challenges stemming from wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as technological innovation, supply chain restructuring and demographic changes.

"As [Chinese] President Xi Jinping has stressed, China is pursuing a high degree of opening up to the outside world and creating cooperation hubs in the form of industrial cooperation complexes in places such as Changchun, Hainan and Yantai," the prime minister said.

"Korea aims to actively utilize such platforms where global companies combine with capital and technology to flesh out industrial, technological and investment cooperation with China, and produce tangible results," he said.

Kim had planned to attend the forum in person but canceled the trip this week to oversee the government's response to the economic impact of the Middle East crisis.

The trip would have served as an opportunity to further improve bilateral ties following President Lee Jae Myung's state visit to Beijing in January.
