Streaming platform Netflix will release the film “Humint” on April 1, barely two months after its theatrical release in February.
The film, released on Feb.11, follows the clash between South and North Korean intelligence agents in Vladivostok, Russia, who are investigating a criminal incident in the border region. The title “Humint” stands for “human intelligence,” referring to the core plotline.
The film was directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, who is known for films such as “Veteran” (2015). The film also has a star-studded cast and features actors Shin Sae-kyeong, Park Jeong-min and Zo In-sung.
During its theatrical run, the film posted disappointing box office results with barely 2 million ticket sales as of March 9, well short of the 4 million needed for the film to break even.
Meanwhile, “The King's Warden” was released a week earlier and became a box office hit, climbing to the No. 3 spot for most viewed Korean film in history as of Monday. The film attracted about 803,000 moviegoers over the weekend, bringing its cumulative total to 14.75 million, according to the Korean Film Council.
