'Royal Palaces of Korea' to showcase traditions and culture to marginalized groups

The Korea Heritage Service and the Korea Heritage Agency will host an event to promote ancient royal culture to marginalized groups in Daejeon and South Chungcheong.

Starting on Tuesday at Gongju Jeongmyeong Special School in Gongju, South Chungcheong, the "'Gung' - Explore the Royal Palaces of Korea" event will be held in 18 different special schools and family centers across the region until Sept. 30.

The annual event, launched in 2020, will visit at least 107 institutions to reach around 4,528 marginalized people, giving them the opportunity to try out royal cuisine and culture.

The year’s event is modeled after the “Starlight Tour at Gyeongbokgung Palace” event, which will be held at Gyeongbok Palace in Jongno District, central Seoul, from Sept. 11 to Oct. 6. A traditional play detailing the lives of royal subjects will be shown, along with the story of King Gojong accepting foreign artifacts and culture.

The participants will also get to dress in traditional clothing and watch a performance of traditional music played with ancient instruments.
