Autumn is prime travel season in Korea, and this year, it’s getting cheaper, with vouchers covering full train fare, up to 50,000 won ($36) off accommodation and more under the 2026 Autumn Travel Month campaign.

Launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) under the slogan “Fall Deeper, Travel Lighter,” the campaign will offer discounts throughout October and November to boost domestic travel and local economies.

Travel and transportation

The perks start even before you get to your destination. Drivers using T Map, a popular Korean navigation app, to visit any of 89 areas experiencing population decline can earn up to 30,000 points on the app. Participants must sign an environmentally friendly travel pledge and travel more than 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) to a designated area to receive a certification stamp from the local government and T Map points. EV drivers, travelers who use a digital tourist resident card and those who post a video review can receive extra points.

For travelers who visit and verify their trip to one of 41 designated areas with a declining population which have partnered with Korail across Gangwon, Gyeongsang, Chungcheong and Jeolla, they will receive discount vouchers equivalent to their train fare. Five themed Korail train routes will also be offered at 50 percent off, while the Naeil-ro Pass will be discounted by 20,000 won.

For domestic round-trip flights booked through Naver, travelers can receive 10,000 Naver Pay points per person for inland routes and 5,000 points per person for Jeju routes, for up to four travelers per booking.

Travel dates for the air, rail and driving benefits must all fall between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30.

To boost tourism in coastal areas with limited public transportation, rental car discounts will be offered in 64 coastal areas outside greater Seoul. Travelers can get 10,000 won off rentals of at least 24 hours and 20,000 won off 48 hours or more, with discounts halved in Jeju. The offer applies to hybrid, electric and liquefied petroleum gas vehicles from Oct. 1 to 31 through the Sea Travel Month website.

Accomodations

Accommodation is also getting cheaper. About 80,000 lodging discount vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis for stays outside the greater Seoul area through online travel agencies beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The vouchers can be used through Nov. 8.

New this year are island accommodation vouchers introduced in connection with the 2026 World Island Fair Yeosu Korea. Bookings for accommodation in island areas costing 70,000 won or more qualify for a 50,000 won discount, while bookings under 70,000 won will receive 30,000 won off.

Camping enthusiasts can receive a 10,000 won discount on registered campground lodges through CampingTalk and Camfit through Nov. 28. The discount can be for stays from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30.

Regional offers

The latest campaign also includes a regional vacation support program that refunds part of travelers’ expenses. Visitors to 13 participating cities and counties can receive 50 percent of their travel expenses back as mobile local gift certificates, for up to 140,000 won. Applicants must submit a travel plan to the relevant local government in advance and, after approval, provide proof of expenses following their trip to receive the refund.

Discounts extend to package tours as well. Starting Monday, travel products on Gmarket’s travel sale page will be offered at up to 50 percent off, capped at 50,000 won, for travel between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30.

There are also special discounts for workers. Those participating in a government vacation support program can receive up to 50 percent off accommodation, admission tickets, transportation and other travel products, capped at 50,000 won, at vacation.benepia.co.kr.

The campaign includes programs travelers can join. “5 Styles, 5 Ways to Discover Korea's Hidden Gems” lets participants travel with well-known content creators to 25 regions under five themes: “A Taste of Autumn,” “Hiking for Good Fortune,” “Outdoor Thrills,” “A Family Day Out" and “ Earth-Friendly Travel.” Programs range from local food and hiking to hands-on activities, family trips and environmentally friendly travel.

Travelers can also turn to the “100x100: 100 Themes and 10,000 places to Explore Korea” which lists 10,000 regional tourist attractions, selected by experts and the public, for ideas on where to go.

Travel programs and events

The campaign overlaps with the 2026 edition of the Korea Grand Festival, a nationwide discount event running from Oct. 29 to Nov. 15 that offers increased discounts on digital onnuri gift certificates and other consumer promotions. Onnuri gift certificates are state-issued vouchers designed to boost local economies and can be used at traditional markets and small businesses, but not at stores operated by large conglomerates.

Local governments and organizations are also joining the campaign with their own discounts. Daegu will cut city tour loop fares by 30 percent, the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism will offer up to 50 percent off temple stays in November, the Korea Rural Community Corporation will cut up to 50 percent off its tour pass, and the Sejong National Arboretum will halve nighttime admission on Fridays and Saturdays in October.

“As the hot summer gives way to autumn, the perfect season for travel, the Culture Ministry will provide strong support for people’s fall travels,” said Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young. “I hope the campaign helps families create wonderful memories and brings new energy to local communities.”
