Posco and Renault Korea refine partnership on gigagrade steel for vehicles

Renault Korea and Posco held “Tech Day 2026” at the automaker’s Central Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi, on June 4, with about 300 supply chain insiders participating.

Posco President Lee Heegeun and Renault Korea CEO Nicolas Paris reinforced technological cooperation between the two companies to secure independence in the mobility market.

The event aims to cement a strategic partnership to secure cost competitiveness through integrated solutions based on leveraging gigagrade steel amid the rapidly evolving automotive industry landscapes.

Future mobility concept vehicles, core resources and technologies indicating future competence such as traction motors, rechargeable battery materials, and Posco Hydrogen Reduction Ironmaking were on display.

At one exhibition, Posco’s technology experts explained technical traits to Renault Korea and employees of other partners, opening the door for in-depth discussions for practical solutions.

A technological seminar discussed automotive industrial resources anchoring the blueprint of the current and future automotive industry with expert lectures and presentations on Posco’s automotive development status, its decarbonization road map and technical trends for rechargeable batteries.

Renault’s Paris stated that Posco is moving beyond being a mere supplier, becoming a core strategic partner to shape future mobility visions that encompass all supply networks. The car brand also said that through Tech Day, Posco’s innovative resource solutions will play a decisive role in gearing up the market viability of next-generation fleets. 

Park Hee-seok, the head of Posco’s automotive steel marketing division, reaffirmed the importance of ultrahigh-strength gigapascal materials in the transition to electrification as he noted that the forum provided a platform to share technical solutions that will spearhead the future of mobility with supply partners.
