The revolution, often simply referred to as April 19, was a protest movement against Korea’s first president Syngman Rhee, who resigned as a result of the uprising. The protests started when the body of a high school student, who was killed by the police while demonstrating against a rigged election, was found. Some 186 people lost their lives during the movement. [YONHAP]](https://image.koreajoongangdaily.com/10885147.jpg?imageId=10885147&width=240&height=184&format=webp&format=jpg)
