Son Heung-min bags goal in third straight MLS match ahead of All-Star showdown

Son Heung-min of Los Angeles FC (LAFC) extended his scoring streak to three consecutive MLS matches on Saturday.

Son scored in the fifth minute of LAFC's 2026 MLS regular-season home match against Western Conference bottom side Sporting Kansas City at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

After winning possession from a loose ball, he drove into the penalty area and fired a right-footed shot into the net.

After failing to score at the FIFA World Cup 2026, Son opened his MLS account for the season against the LA Galaxy on July 17. He followed with another goal against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night and struck again on Saturday to make it three straight league matches with a goal.

It marked his first three-game MLS scoring streak in 10 months since September of last year.

Denis Bouanga of LAFC added two goals and an assist, which helped the club cruise to a 4-0 victory. The club stretched its winning streak to four matches and climbed to second place in the Western Conference.

Son will not be able to cap off the month by sharing the pitch with Inter Miami's Lionel Messi in the MLS All-Star Game against the Liga MX All-Stars on Wednesday, with the Argentine captain opting to rest after finishing in second place in the World Cup.

“Prior to the start of the 2026 season, MLS and the MLS Players Association agreed that upon a player’s exit from the World Cup competition, clubs would have individual conversations with each player to determine the appropriate rest and return to training and competition timeline,” the MLS office said.
