Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane scored twice in the second round of the German Cup, with the defending champion winning 4-1 against second-division VfL Osnabrück on Wednesday.

Korean national team defender Kim Min-jae played the full game. This also marked his third start this season.

Bayern’s squad did not include German star Jamal Musiala, who has been absent since collapsing in two preseason games because of a neurological issue.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said that Musiala “might” be an option for the league game against promoted Schalke 04 on Saturday.

“But I don’t want to put any more pressure on the guy,” he said.

During the match against the lower-division rival, Kompany resisted the urge to make wholesale changes and started with star forwards Kane, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise. Newly signed Ismael Saibari made his first start since joining from PSV Eindhoven.

Robin Meissner scored a brilliant early opener for Osnabrück from around 30 meters (98.4 feet) to the top right corner of the post. Kane and even Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig congratulated the player for the strike.

Kane equalized the score shortly afterward, and Tom Bischof made it 2-1 in the 24th minute. Bayern needed to wait until the 73rd minute for Olise to seal the result before Kane completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Kim firmly held the backline and recorded a 98 percent success rate in high passes and an 83 percent success rate in ground duels.
