SK Hynix's Cheongju plant in North Chungcheong [NORTH CHUNGCHEONG]
A fire broke out at SK hynix's Cheongju Technopolis industrial complex in North Chungcheong, injuring seven people as of early Monday.
The fire started around 10:32 a.m. in a gas room on the sixth floor of Building 3, according to Yonhap. The fire was brought under control after activating the sprinklers, but hydrogen fluoride, a toxic gas, was leaked at a level of 5 parts per million (ppm).
The 5 ppm reading exceeded the Ministry of Employment and Labor's ceiling exposure limit of 3 ppm.
The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration's permissible exposure limit of hydrogen fluoride sits at 3 ppm as an eight-hour average.
"Firefighters in protective gear are inside determining exactly what happened," a fire official said. "The number of patients could also rise.
