Kospi surpasses 6,900 mark in new intraday high

Korean stocks broke past the 6,900 mark on Monday afternoon for the first time in its history.
The benchmark Kospi was up more than 4 percent from the previous session, at 6,905.05 as of 1:32 p.m.
The index opened at 6,782.93, topping the previous all-time intraday high of 6,750.27 set on Thursday.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix shares surged 4 percent and 11 percent, respectively, driving the Kospi higher. SK hynix in particular crossed the 1,400,000 won ($951.77) mark, pushing its market capitalization above 1,000 trillion won for the first time.
Foreign and institutional investors were net buyers of 3.06 trillion won. Retail investors took the opportunity to cash out, offloading a net of 4.87 trillion won.
