K-pop boy band Seventeen member The8 will release a new song titled “不见了 (Love is gone)” on Friday, according to his label Pledis Entertainment.

The8 reportedly wrote the lyrics and actively participated in the music-making as well.

Sung in Chinese, the track expresses the bittersweet emotions of separation through the raw, exaggerated textures characteristic of the maximalist, internet-driven electronic music genre dubbed hyperpop, Pledis said in a press release on Thursday. Unfiltered emotion and near-raw vocals also convey the inner fractures and lingering traces left after losing someone loved, it added.

The8, whose legal name is Xu Minghao, was born in Liaoning, China.

A concept teaser for the new song was released on Wednesday featuring fragmented electronic waves and a shot of The8 from behind.

Earlier this month, The8 released another self-composed track, “四月的漂流 (April Drift),” a Bedroom Pop song which uses the changing seasons as a metaphor for the process of love and loss. The song trended on Chinese social media upon release and reached the upper ranks of major music charts in the country, according to Pledis.

The8 is also set to take the stage at the Midou Music Festival in Nanjing in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on May 1 and 2, performing solo sets on both days.

The8 debuted as a member Seventeen in May 2015. The band is known for hits like “Very Nice” (2016), “Hot” (2022), “Super” (2023) and “Cheers to youth” (2024). The8 released his first solo EP, “Stardust,” on December 2024, featuring the title track “Orbit.”
