Agriculture Minister Song Mi-ryung has discussed expanding agriculture cooperation between Korea and Vietnam while exploring opportunities to expand K-food exports in the Southeast Asian nation during a meeting with her Vietnamese counterpart, Song's office said Wednesday.
The policymaker met with Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung in Hanoi on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
In the meeting, Song asked Vietnam to extend its import window for Korean melons by one month, from the current December to May period to June, in a bid to boost exports of the fruit recently gaining popularity in the Southeast Asian country, the ministry said.
They also discussed expanding bilateral fruit trade and strengthening cooperation in agricultural official development assistance, as well as speeding up responses to livestock diseases, such as African swine fever.
“Vietnam is a major importer of Korean food and agricultural products," Song said in a press release, vowing efforts to expand K-food exports to the country.
