South Korea to repatriate remains of 12 Chinese troops killed in Korean War this week

South Korea will repatriate the remains of 12 Chinese troops who were killed while fighting alongside North Korea during the 1950-53 Korean War this week, the Defense Ministry said Tuesday.
 
An event marking the handover of the remains to China at Incheon International Airport will take place on Wednesday, according to the ministry.

South Korea has so far repatriated the remains of 1,011 Chinese troops since 2014 in accordance with internal law and on humanitarian grounds.
 
This year's ceremony will take place publicly and be attended by vice-ministerial-level officials of the two nations for the first time in three years, in light of improved South Korea-China relations.
