The production studio SLL will open a contest to select one of its renowned drama titles for a Taiwanese remake.
The content studio, a subsidiary of the JoongAng Group, said it will start the “Beam” Korea-Taiwan drama co-development project in association with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (Taicca) on April 29, the Korean content firm said Monday.
The announcement is an extension of the memorandum of understanding signed by Taicca and SLL in May 2025, which aimed to create new intellectual property (IP) and remake existing content for the Taiwanese and greater Chinese markets.
The contest will have applicants submitting a remake proposal for one of the six SLL-made hit dramas, “My Liberation Notes” (2022), “Romance in the House” (2024), “A Hundred Memories” (2025), “Beyond Evil” (2021), “Beyond the Bar” (2025) and “Miss Night and Day” (2024).
“Since the chosen dramas are available on Netflix and Hami Video, local production firms are expected to eagerly participate in the contest,” SLL said in a press release. Hami Video is a Taiwanese on-demand streaming service.
The second half of the contest will accept the submission of brand-new stories, aiming to create an original drama for the Chinese-speaking world.
SLL will contribute 600,000 Taiwan dollars ($19,000) to production costs and have its producers and writers join the development of the series.
“The Beam project will serve as an indicator of how SLL’s strong IP can expand through collaboration with overseas local partners,” the Korean company said in a press release. “Together with Taiwan’s creative producers, we will create high-quality content that can excite global audiences.”
