Police on Tuesday raided a plating factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where the owner allegedly injured a foreign worker with an industrial air gun about two months ago, causing severe internal injuries.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency sent 20 investigators to the factory in Hyangnam District in the morning to seize materials related to the incident, including the owner's phone and computers.
On Feb. 20, the factory owner fired an industrial air gun into the anus of a Thai worker who was performing cleaning work at the factory. The victim reportedly suffered abdominal swelling and internal organ damage, underwent surgery at a hospital and is still receiving treatment. The owner has claimed that he did not intentionally aim the device and that it was just a prank.
The raid came a week after the police formed a dedicated investigation team in consideration of the seriousness of the incident. The police have also been analyzing two air guns presumed to have been used in the alleged assault.
Soon after the raid, the National Forensic Service conducted an on-site inspection at the factory.
The police plan to summon the factory owner as a criminal suspect as soon as they finish analyzing the seized materials.
