The German football giants FC Bayern Munich announced Friday that they will visit Korea in August for a preseason exhibition match against a domestic club.
Bayern, featuring Korean international Kim Min-jae, will face Jeju SK FC of K League 1 on Aug. 4 at Jeju World Cup Stadium on the southern Jeju Island. It will be part of the Bundesliga club's 10th edition of the "Audi Summer Tour," which will also see them play in Hong Kong on Aug. 7.
On the eve of the Jeju match, Bayern Munich will also hold an open training session.
According to Jeju SK FC, further details on the match, including ticket sales, will be determined following final authorization by the Korea Football Association.
This will be Bayern's second trip to Korea. On their first visit in August 2024, they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in a preseason friendly at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Jeju SK FC CEO Jo Ja-ryong said he was excited to bring the club to the scenic island.
"I think there is no limit to the value that football can bring, and Jeju SK FC will continue to seek new value and meaning on the football pitch," Jo said. "I hope that this match will provide Jeju residents and football fans across the country with an unforgettable experience."
Rouven Kasper, the member of the German club's board responsible for marketing and sales, said Bayern Munich have been "a pioneering force" in the internationalization in German football.
"We are at home in Munich, and at the same time, keep our fans and partners all over the world in mind," he said. "Around a billion people follow FC Bayern, a good half of whom are from Asia. We are very much looking forward to this trip."
