Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol has instructed officials to remain vigilant against economic uncertainty despite a two-week cease-fire agreement between the United States and Iran, according to his office on Friday.
Concerns have arisen that the cease-fire in the U.S.-Iran conflict appears fragile amid Iran's continued restrictions on traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and Israel's strikes targeting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.
"Although a two-week cease-fire has been agreed upon, do not lower your guard and respond more thoroughly as it is difficult to predict future developments," Koo was quoted as saying during a meeting with senior ministry officials on Thursday.
He also expressed concern over the growing impact of the monthlong conflict on Korea's broader economy, including consumer prices and supply chains, as well as foreign exchange and financial markets.
“Make full use of the cease-fire period to proactively review additional measures in case of a prolonged war, and quickly identify on-the-ground difficulties to ensure timely responses," Koo said, according to the ministry.
