The data protection regulator said Thursday it has fined British auction house Christie's 287 million won ($193,600) over a data leak involving Korean nationals.

Christie's recently suffered a breach that leaked the personal data of 620 Korean members, including their names, addresses and resident registration numbers, according to the Personal Information Protection Commission.

The breach occurred after a Christie's employee granted a malicious actor access to its personal information processing system, according to the regulator.

The auction house was also found not to have taken proper security measures, such as storing customer data without encryption, the regulator said, adding that it belatedly notified the incident after the 72-hour deadline.
