K-pop megaband BTS is set to begin its massive world tour “Arirang” in Goyang, Gyeonggi, on Thursday evening.
Starting with three shows at Goyang Stadium, northwest of Seoul, it will go on to perform 82 more across 33 cities worldwide.
Forty-six shows have already sold out, according to concert organizer Live Nation, with the band selling approximately 2.4 million tickets for 41 North American and European dates alone.
For the North American leg of the world tour, BTS is slated to headline a string of major U.S. stadiums and will be the first Korean act to hold solo concerts at some of them, including the Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso; the Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California; the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts; the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore; and the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Virginia.
For the South American leg, the band will be the first Korean band to perform at Estadio El Campín in Bogotá, Colombia, and Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona, formerly known as the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, in Buenos Aires. It will also stage the first solo concert by a Korean act at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago, Chile.
The tour marks BTS’s first visit to Colombia, Peru and Argentina as well.
The septet is expected to perform tracks from its latest album, “Arirang,” and earlier hits.
“Arirang,” released on March 20, marked the end of BTS’s nearly four-year hiatus and was followed by a celebratory comeback performance at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul the next day.
