The Bank of Korea (BOK) said Tuesday it held a joint seminar with the Bank of France on digital assets and climate change to discuss their impact on the economy and the role of central banks in today's fast-changing financial environment.

The two-day seminar, which runs through Wednesday, brought together central bank researchers and academic experts from both countries to discuss the impact of stablecoins and central bank digital currencies on payment systems and the international monetary framework, according to the BOK.

The participants will also discuss the effects of climate change on inflation and the broader macroeconomy, as well as policy challenges facing financial institutions, it added.

“The two institutions will exchange views on the role of central banks and policy response directions amid recent changes in the financial environment,” the BOK said in a released statement. “The two sides will further expand the conference to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation.”

The forum is part of a regular academic exchange program between the two institutions and has been held alternately in Korea and France since 2024.
