Korean, Thai filmakers to co-produce film about Korean War

iFilm Corporation signed a deal with Thai filmmakers to co-produce a movie about Thai soldiers who fought in the Korean War (1950-53), the Korean studio said Friday.
 
Titled "1950, Memory of the Day," the movie tells the story of Thai soldiers who fought alongside South Korean troops in the war between the two Koreas and come to "understand the meaning of camaraderie and sacrifice," according to iFilm Corporation.

Thailand dispatched 11,786 military personnel to the Korean peninsula during the war and recorded 1,273 casualties, including 129 killed in action, according to the United Nations Command. It also provided ships, rice and medical support to the South.
 
The 120-minute film will be shot on location in Thailand and Korea, featuring Thailand's tropical landscapes and winter battle scenes in Korea, the studio said.
 
Thai studios ThaiKo Film will lead the overall production, while Mbrella Films will handle filming in Thailand. iFilm Corporation will oversee filming in Korea and post-production.
 
The companies signed the agreement at a ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand, on March 23, attended by executives including ThaiKo Film CEO Siddhivadhi Kittisiddho, Mbrella Films CEO Joshua Dixon and iFilm Corporation CEO Lee Suk-joon.
 
“'1950, Memory of the Day' is not only a war film created through collaboration between Korean and Thai filmmakers, but also a project that captures the shared history of our two nations on screen," Lee said, as quoted by the firm. "We hope this partnership will deliver both cinematic excellence and genuine emotional authenticity to audiences.”
