The Science Ministry on Wednesday launched a consultative body with leading Korean technology firms to discuss strategies to foster the growth of the agentic AI industry.
The Ministry of Science and ICT held an inauguration ceremony for the Agentic AI Alliance in Seoul with NC AI, LG AI Research, Kakao and Soongsil University's AI Safety Center to advance Korea's agentic AI ecosystem and secure a global leadership position.
Agentic AI refers to systems capable of independently setting and executing plans to achieve specific goals.
Under the partnership, NC AI will focus on finding potential industry applications for agentic AI models, while LG AI Research will monitor domestic and global technology trends while seeking to optimize agentic AI tools.
Kakao will propose policy improvement measures needed to expand the ecosystem, and Soongsil University will work to establish a safety evaluation framework for agentic AI, the ministry added.
The ministry said the alliance came as AI models are evolving into systems capable of making judgments and acting independently, no longer limited to simply responding to questions.
"Competition in the AI industry is now shifting from technology to leadership in the ecosystem," Second Vice Science Minister Ryu Je-myung said in a release.
"The science ministry aims to enhance cooperation among businesses, the academic community and the government through the alliance to boost Korean companies' global competitiveness and promote the use of agentic AI tools in everyday life."
