Korea has agreed to increase the number of flights to and from Hungary and Austria following recent aviation talks with the countries, a move expected to improve travel options for tourists and business people, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Wednesday.
The latest round of talks with Hungary took place last Wednesday in Budapest, during which the countries agreed to increase flights between them. A similar deal was reached in talks with Austria, held in Vienna on Thursday, according to the ministry.
Under the agreement with Hungary, the two sides expanded passenger traffic rights between all airports from six flights per week to 14.
Under the deal with Austria, flights between the countries will sharply increase to 21 per week from four. The countries also agreed to create additional routes connecting Korea with regional cities of Austria outside of Vienna in the future.
The ministry said the move reflects growing demand among Korean travelers for direct routes to various European destinations.
"The expanded agreements are expected to significantly enhance travel convenience and options for Korean passengers," said Joo Jong-wan, director-general for aviation policy at the ministry.
