Oil containers are lined up on a fisher’s truck at Daebyeon Port in Gijang County, Busan, a major source of anchovies and seaweed, on April 1, the first day higher tax-free fuel prices took effect. Fuel prices announced that day to local fishers were about 40 to 45 percent higher than the previous month, with high-grade diesel for anchovy fishing vessels rising to 277,180 won per 200-liter drum ($3.52 per gallon).
