Demand for premium eggs rises despite higher prices, driven by growing interest in health and ethical consumption.

The share of animal welfare eggs, those produced by hens with improved living conditions, among laying hens overall rose from 4.4 percent in January, 2022 to 13.8 percent in December last year, according to the Korea Rural Economic Institute, tripling over four years. Market size has also expanded rapidly, with total purchases reaching 634.7 billion won ($418.6 million) in 2024, up 36.6 percent from a year earlier, according to Macromill Embrain.
