Sookmyung Women’s University Station will update its name as the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education relocates to the campus neighborhood.
The education office announced on Thursday that the Sookmyung Women's University subway station will be renamed the “Sookmyung Women's University (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education) Station.”
The Seoul Metro will update the name on subway route maps and signs within this year.
The decision follows the education office's move from Jongro District, central Seoul, to Yongsan District, central Seoul. The education office's building will be called Seoul Education Maru, located around a 5-minute walk from the Sookmyung Women's University Station.

“Adding 'Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education' to the subway station name is a meaningful decision that will reduce confusion and improve accessibility for students, parents and citizens visiting the education office’s new building,” said Jung Keun-sik, the superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. “Through Seoul Education Maru, which will be a symbolic space for Seoul's education, we will [...] begin a new era for Seoul's education.”
