GS Entec hosted a booth at the exhibition and showcased videos showing how the Yeonggwang Nakwol Offshore Wind Farm, a large-scale offshore wind farm currently being built in the waters near Nakwol-myeon, South Jeolla, is being constructed. Once completed, the farm will house a total of 64 5.7-megawatt wind turbines installed for a total capacity of 367 megawatts.

The company also showed a video of a collaboration with Sif, a Dutch company, in developing state-of-the-art automation equipment with the capability to manufacture 15-megawatt-class ultralarge monopiles.

GS Entec also held meetings with major Japanese trading companies during the exhibition to discuss potential supply arrangements, according to the company.

Lee Hyuk, Korean ambassador to Japan, also visited the GS Entec booth on Thursday and expressed hope for the continued success of Korean companies in the Japanese offshore wind market.

The offshore wind markets in Korea and Japan are expected to grow to a combined capacity of about 20.5 gigawatts by 2030, driven by carbon neutrality policies, according to industry estimates.

GS Entec’s Ulsan Yongjam plant, which has received about 300 billion won ($199 million) in investment, is nearing completion of its conversion into a monopile production facility based on technology developed in partnership with Sif. Once the facility is completed in June and is fully operational later this year, the plant is expected to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons of monopiles, according to GS Entec.

“As the energy transition accelerates, what the market demands is proven technology and a reliable supply chain,” said GS Entec CEO Huh Cheol-hong. “Based on our world-class monopile technology and the successful experience of the Yeonggwang Nakwol project, GS Entec aims to become an unrivaled partner in the Japanese offshore wind market, extending beyond Korea.”
