SNU to launch a department exclusively for international students

Seoul National University (SNU) is proceeding with plans to launch a new department exclusively for international students, tentatively named the Department of Global Talent.

According to a spokesperson for SNU, the university is currently conducting an internal review to establish the new department. The spokesperson added that the goal of establishing a new department is to develop an inbound international program to attract outstanding global talent and provide more systematic support for international students.

“The university is planning on launching the department to strengthen international students’ academic foundations, Korean language proficiency, academic advising and overall campus life support,” the SNU representative told the Korea JoongAng Daily.

If the plan proceeds as proposed, the department is expected to admit its first cohort of freshmen in September 2027.
