Posco Future M's synthetic graphite anode plant in Pohang, North Gyeongsang [POSCO FUTURE M]
Posco Future M has inked a 1 trillion won ($670 million) deal to supply anodes, critical materials for batteries, to an undisclosed global automaker.
The contract marks the largest single order secured by the Korean company since it entered the anode materials business in 2011.
The Korean battery materials maker said Monday that the deal to supply synthetic graphite anodes will run for five years, from 2027 through 2032, and includes a provision allowing the term to be extended through mutual agreement between the parties.
To cover the supply, Posco Future will invest 357 billion won to build a new plant in Vietnam dedicated to producing synthetic graphite anodes.
With the latest deal, Posco Future M has now secured anode contracts worth up to 4 trillion won in total, with customers including several Korean battery makers, General Motors and a major battery maker in Japan.
