Genesis BBQ Group has built a middle school in Kenya to help bring better learning opportunities to children in an underserved community.
The middle school was built in Noretet, a Maasai community in Kajiado County, in January. Since 2018, Genesis BBQ has raised funds to continue projects aimed at improving living conditions for residents in Africa, according to the company on Monday.
I Love Africa is Genesis BBQ's initiative that delivers practical help to vulnerable communities in Africa. The initiative is Korea’s first international relief and development nongovernmental organization specializing in Africa.
Genesis BBQ has carried out a range of philanthropic projects in Africa since 2018 through its matching fund system, in which headquarters and the franchise each set aside 10 won (half a cent) per order of chicken.
Genesis BBQ has also pursued an education improvement project in Noretet. The company began construction of Noretet Middle School in 2024 and completed it in January, expanding educational opportunities for local teenagers who may find it difficult to continue their studies after graduating from primary school.

Until that point, Genesis BBQ had used some of the classrooms at Noretet Primary School, completed in 2023 through the matching fund, as makeshift middle school classrooms.
“The middle school was built in Africa in memory of Seo Ok-ja, the mother of Chairman Yoon Hong-geun, and to honor her lifelong wish to expand love and education for children facing hardship around the world,” a Genesis BBQ representative said. “We will continue to plan and carry out social contribution activities so that we can spread a positive impact in Korea and in many other parts of the world.”
