Soonchunhyang University announced on Thursday that it opened the International College, offered exclusively to international students, and welcomed its inaugural class.

The International College has four undergraduate departments: the Department of Global Industrial Engineering, the Department of Global Health, the Department of Global Sports Management and the Department of Global Open Major, the last of which allows students to choose their major in their second year.

Students at the International College will focus on learning Korean in their first year and take courses in their major starting in their second year. As a college only for international students, the university will also provide a range of support — including assistance with daily life, Korean culture programs, career counseling, internship opportunities and visa help — to attendees.

Soonchunhyang University plans to promote the new college to students in Central Asia, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia through its partner universities and to establish graduate degree programs in the future. Through these efforts, the university aims to attract 3,000 international students over the next five years.

“Through the International College [...] we will enhance the global competitiveness of our academic institution and create a system aligned with local industries to nurture talent,” said Song Byeong-kug, the president of Soonchunhyang University.
