Legendary Hong Kong star Tony Leung will visit Korea from April 2 to 4 to promote his latest film “Silent Friend” (2025), domestic distributor Andamiro said Thursday.

Leung, who most recently came to Korea to attend the Busan International Film Festival last year, stars as a botanist in “Silent Friend,” who is one of three people who become deeply interested in a single majestic Ginkgo tree inside a university in Germany.

Also starring actors Lea Seydoux, Luna Wedler and Enzo Brumm, the film is directed by Hungarian filmmaker Ildiko Enyedi. It competed in the main competition section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival last year, winning two prizes.

Since debuting in 1992 through the Hong Kong drama series “Solider of Fortune,” Leung has built a prolific career with more than 100 film credits and many accolades.

Some of Leung’s work include “In the Mood for Love” (2000), for which he won the Best Actor award at Cannes in 2000, its sequel “2046” (2004), romance film “Happy Together” (1997), “Infernal Affairs” (2002), “The Longest Nite” (1998) and “The Eagle Shooting Heroes” (1993).

Leang also gained recent recognition among the younger generations through his role in Marvel film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021), where he portrays the villain and the father of the protagonist Shang-Chi, portrayed by Simu Liu.
