Korea's first full-length film created entirely with generative AI is scheduled to be released in May.

“I'm PoPo,” a 64-minute film, tells the story of PoPo, a robot created to help people, which ends up killing a potentially dangerous human, according to Cinema Newone

The film was directed by cartoonist Kim Il-dong, known for the No. 1 Naver webtoon “GGAVANG (2007).” Every stage of the production — including development, character design and background design — was completed using generative AI, according to Cinema Newone

It was invited to the 23rd International Film and Theater Festival Amur Autumn in Russia for a special screening, according to Cinema Newone.

“The project moves beyond earlier AI-generated films, which were mostly short experimental works or demonstrations of technical capability. 'I'm PoPo' presents a complete narrative, marking a shift in how AI is used in filmmaking — from assistive to directive,” said Cinema Newone.
