Korea’s benchmark stock index broke above the 6,000 mark on Wednesday, in less than a month after crossing 5,000, driven by gains in chipmakers.
The Kospi traded at 6,012.44 at 9:03 a.m., up 42.8 points, or 0.72 percent, from the previous session's close.
The index surged more than 2 percent to close at a record high 5,969.64 on Tuesday, led by advances in chip and auto shares.
