The military has deployed some 500 service members and 27 helicopters to help combat wildfires raging across the country's central and southeastern regions, the Army said Tuesday.
The Army has mobilized the troops to the central cities of Seosan and Yesan in South Chungcheong, and Hamyang and Miryang in South Gyeongsang.
Firefighters have been battling wildfires in those regions that have broken out since the weekend and have almost contained the main blaze.
Army service members were currently helping put out the remaining fires and build firebreaks to prevent the spread of wildfires, alongside forestry and firefighting authorities.
They also deployed 12 CH-47 Chinook and 15 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to help transport personnel and goods to the site.
