Coupang to give data leak victims 50,000 won — with a catch

Coupang will issue compensation of 50,000 won ($35) to each of the 33.7 million users affected by a massive data leak, the embattled e-commerce company said Monday.

Coupang announced the 1.7 trillion won plan as the core of its response plan for the recent data leak.

The company will distribute the compensation in phases beginning on Jan. 15, 2026. WOW members, general users and those who have withdrawn their membership will all receive payouts.

The 50,000 won will not be paid in cash but as coupons, with 5,000 won given to use on Coupang, 5,000 for Coupang Eats and 20,000 each for use on Coupang Travel and R.Lux.
