As a heat wave warning blanketed most of the country on July 27, people cooled off in the fountain at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul. Temperatures in the capital soared to a record-high 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), marking the hottest day of the year so far, with sweltering conditions persisting nationwide.
