Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul on Tuesday strongly condemned North Korea's troop deployment to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine, as he met with current and former presidents of the U.N. General Assembly, his office said.
Cho made the remark during a welcome dinner he hosted for a 10-member delegation of the Council of the Presidents of the U.N. General Assembly (UNCPGA), the foreign ministry said in a release.
Cho "condemned the illegal military cooperation between the North and Russia, calling them flagrant violations of the U.N. Security Council resolutions," the ministry said.
Cho highlighted the role of the U.N. General Assembly as a multilateral mechanism amid the growing polycrisis and expressed hope that the Uncpga will contribute to strengthening the United Nations' role.
The delegation included the sitting president, Philemon Yang, and former South Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-soo, who served as the president from 2022-23.
