Users can now record and transcribe a phone call on iPhones through built-in features after the Apple Intelligence iOS update [APPLE]
Apple made call recording possible on its iPhones without a third-party app through an AI-topped Apple Intelligence update to its iOS on Monday.
It is the first time the Cupertino, California-based IT giant has made recording phone calls possible on the iPhones in 17 years since the smartphone brand's conception in 2007. Until now, it has disallowed call recording through built-in features citing strict privacy policies.
Now, call recording lets participants know that their conversation is being recorded and produces a transcript afterward.
Apple released AI tools through Apple Intelligence software on Monday that assists in summarizing notifications, writing mobile messages and emails as well as editing photos. They have become available in iPhone 16 models as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. It is also available on Mac computers and iPad tables equipped with the latest chips.
“Apple Intelligence introduces a new era for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, delivering brand-new experiences and tools that will transform what our users can accomplish,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO.
“Apple Intelligence builds on years of innovation in AI and machine learning to put Apple’s generative models at the core of our devices, giving our users a personal intelligence system that is easy to use — all while protecting their privacy. Apple Intelligence is generative AI in a way that only Apple can deliver, and we’re incredibly excited about its ability to enrich our users’ lives.”
A Korean version of the AI tool will be available in April, according to Apple.
